View of Cape Diamond, Plains of Abraham, and part of the Town of Quebec

London: J.W.Edy, 1795. Notes: A scarce and beautiful aquatint which is part of a set of aquatints produced by J.W. Edy from the picture by Lieutenant Fisher of the Royal Artillery. Lieutenant Fisher came to Canada as aide-De-camp to the commander-in-chief of the Canadian forces in Nova Scotia. These images of some of Canada's most striking landscapes were executed during the four years of their tour of duty.
Fisher wrote a short description of this view,
"The subjects represented in this view form a picture that is at once striking and picturesque. Cape Diamond, on which stand the Citadel and Fortification of Quebec, is a bold and elevated situated and constitutes the most prominent feature in the landscape. The plains of Anraham, rendered celebrated by the death of General Wolf, and the subsequent surrender of the place, form part of the ridge of land, of which the cape itself is the extremity. The town is, for the most part, built on the opposite side of this promontory, and has but little to recommend it but its situation, which is on the declivity of the hill and commands a beautiful view of the basin of Quebec, the island of Orleans, and distant mountains of Chateaurichi"., Image Size : 415x610 (mm), 16.34x24.02 (Inches), Platemark Size : , Paper Size : , Coloring: Original Hand Coloring, Medium: Aquatint, Categories: Views Canada Quebec;. Very Good, couple of marginal tears professionally repaired. Item #P4664
