The panorama is in five sturdily connected plates. The city is shown in great detail with numerous Churches and Mosques filling the skyline. Listed in the margins are several landmarks such as Scutarii, the Roumelli Hissari, Sultan Ahmet and the Tower of Galata. Otherwise, there are detailed scenes of locals socializing and traveling in the foreground. The Bosporus Strait is shown filled with numerous ships.

Joseph Schranz (sometimes known as Giuseppe) was born at Port Mahon, Minorca, one of three artist sons of the painter Anton Schranz (1769-1839).
