London: London Illustrated, c. 1938. Notes: This is an example of a Shakespeare-class (or Thornycroft type leader) destroyer. They were built to sail at the vanguard of a destroyer flotilla--an ensemble of naval ships specifically targeted at torpedo boats. As flotilla leaders, they were built slightly larger than most destroyers in order to house signal equipment, larger crews, and a fifth gun. Two Shakespeare-class destroyers served in World War I (one of which was badly damaged by a mine and scrapped).
