The map has an ornate decorative cartouche in the bottom left corner and an inset map of the Bay of Martinique in the top right corner that shows navigational details and docks within the bay.
Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was the “Hydrographe du Roi” and the first chief hydrographic engineer of the “Depot des Cartes, Plans et Journaux du Ministre de la Marine.”
