This map is a very important map that changed the way cartographers depicted North America. The main reason for it's impact was due to its rendering of the Great Lakes and the Mississippi Valley. A definite improvement over the standard maps used at the time by Sanson.
It also shows California as an Island, the addition of Terre de Iesso in the north west, the addition of Lake Apalache in the south (just above present day Florida), and the suggestion that there was a Northwest Passage. There is an inset map in the top left hand corner showing a closeup of Terre de Iesso and Mer de Iesso.
