Port Dover is the oldest town. The original Dover, laid out under supervision of Simcoe, who visted the place in 1795, was a little to the east of the present town. The present site dates from 1834. The mills of the old town were burned in the war of 1812-14. Port Ryerse was established by the Ryersons, among the first settlers.
