An important map of the Southeastern United States from the German edition of Mark Catesby's Natural History of Carolina nearly identical to the first English state. It depicts the Southeastern United States from the Mississippi River to the Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico.It is colored to show the British Colonies in pink, French possessions in green and the regions controlled by Spain in yellow. The map is based on the manuscript of Captain John Barnwell (1722) that incorporates several details not found on earlier printed maps and Popple's important 20-sheet map . Catesby scholar G.F. Frick calls this map "a good representation of the better English ideas about the geography of North America" in the period.
