Paris, Cadiz: 1785. Notes: A highly decorative and rare 18th century map of the Americas (North and South America) with two elaborate cartouches. The map is surrounded by an ornate border that includes 20 oval-shaped vignettes, descriptive text panels illustrating the diverse regions, native peoples, and colonial scenes of the Americas. North America has the names of Indian tribes, rivers, and mountains. The large Sea of the West in the northwestern U. S. and Canada is present. As expected, Canadian territory is depicted larger than that of the English colonies. Text in French and Spanish.
