The map covers the areas from Fort Kamloops to Fort Okanagan and from Howe Sound to Fort Colvile. It depicts Indian trails, routes, forts, gold fields, rivers, lakes, mountains, range dividing Columbia and Fraser Rivers and the the routes to the gold area on the Fraser River. It also shows the gold region on the Dease (Kettle) River and upper Columbia River. John (1790-1873) followed his uncle, Aaron Arrowsmith and enjoyed considerable recognition in the geography and exploration community as the official cartographer of the Hudson Bay Co.
