Emanuel Bowen (1694 –1767) was a Welsh map engraver and print seller who achieved the unusual distinction of becoming Royal Mapmaker to both to King George II of Great Britain and Louis XV of France. Bowen was recognised for producing some of the largest, accurate and highly detailed maps and atlases of his time. He is known to have worked with most British cartographers including John Owen and Herman Moll. His son, Thomas Bowen, continued his father’s business training future great map-makers Thomas Kitchin & Thomas Jeffreys.
