José María de Andueza (1809 - 1865) was a Spanish journalist and writer. He wrote historical novels and worked as a journalist in Cuba. He first visited Havana in 1825 and also various locations in the western provinces. He returned to Spain in 1830 and there wrote Panorama Matritense (1836). That same year he returned to Cuba. There he premiered the dramas Guillermo (1838), considered the first Romantic-leaning play written in Cuba, María de Padilla (1839), and Blanca de Navarra (1839). He was an editor and contributor to Noticioso y Lucero , Diario de La Habana, and El Faro Industrial de La Habana. He also contributed to the second phase of El Plantel, a prestigious Cuban literary magazine, where he was appointed co-director (Nov. 1838-Aug. 1839), replacing Palma and Echeverría. There, he published biographical and costumbrista articles under the pseudonym Abén Zaide, as well as the poem "La serenata" and the novels Abul Hacem, Espatolino, and Margarita. Upon returning to Cuba, he became the civil governor of Toledo. In Spain, he contributed to the Revista de Teatro (1843), El Noticiero (1854-1859), and Semanario Pintoresco Español. At the time of his death, he was serving as secretary of the Bank of La Coruña. He used the pseudonym Aben-Zaide., Size: 8vo.
