Over the course of his life, his art would earn significant acclaim, eventually securing him the very first professorial position of landscape painting with the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Not only did he provide most of the drawings for Espana’s lithographs, but he was also its artistic director and promoter. Villaamil died in Madrid in 1854.
