During 18th and 19th century, many Zoroastrian members of the Parsi community immigrated to Bombay. As trade developed between Iran and India, many of these Parsi communities began publishing important Persian literary works. The illustrations and style of the manuscript produced here are very similar to the Qajar style that was common in Iran during this period. The first Bombay Shahnameh was printed in 1262 AH (1846 AD), and in the following years, more imprints were published well into the 20th century and beyond. In Iran, Shahnameh was first published in Tehran in 1265-67 (1849-51).
