Revolt in the Dessert
New York: George H. Doran Company. 1927. Edition: First American Edition , Binding: contemporary light brown cloth overboard, title on flat spine and upper board, side and bottom edges uncut, pasted and front free leaf with desert scene.
, Notes: Revolt in the Desert was an abridged version of Seven Pillars that he began in 1926 and that was published in March 1927 in both limited and trade editions. Lawrence's major work is Seven Pillars of Wisdom, an account of his war experiences. In 1919, he was elected to a seven-year research fellowship at All Souls College, Oxford, providing him with support while he worked on the book. Certain parts of the book also serve as essays on military strategy, Arabian culture and geography, and other topics. By the fourth reprint in 1927, the debt from Seven Pillars was paid off. As Lawrence left for military service in India at the end of 1926, he set up the "Seven Pillars Trust" with his friend D. G. Hogarth as a Trustee, in which he made over the copyright and any surplus income of Revolt in the Desert.
Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence (1888-1935) was a British archaeologist, army officer, diplomat, and writer. He was renowned for his role in the Arab Revolt and the Sinai and Palestine Campaign against the Ottoman Empire during the First World War.
