The French geographer and mapmaker, Pierre Duval, of Abbeville, was the nephew and pupil of Nicolas Sanson. He became Geographe Ordinaire du Roy (Louis XIV). “He produced a variety of cartographical works from 1654 onwards until his death in 1683, with later editions being published by his widow Marie Desmaretz.
