This illuminated manuscript originates from the Middle East, possibly Persia; its designs point it to the late Safavid period., Size: 8vo (184 x112mm), Illustration: The initial, central, and final double pages are superbly illuminated: text columns are arranged in seven to eight (7or 8) lines of fine Naskh script, surrounded and framed by designs of horizontal and diagonal rectangles; the eight cornices symmetrically arranged are illuminated in red, cobald blue and gilt to create oriental designs. The start of each section or Surah is highlighted, mostly through blue and gilt headpieces with the text in blue. The main calligraphic text, however, is in black ink forming one column with fifteen (15) lines of Naskh with intermittent red ink used for diacritical marks and to highlight words; the text is surrounded by two decorative gilt and blue filleted panels dividing the paper margin into two layers of which the inner and its corners are beautifully decorated with numerous ornamental designs and words utilizing the three colours. , Provenance: Library stamps on lower margins of endpapers, Pages: bl.
