Gilt text on morocco label on spine. , Notes: A scarce bound set of maps from James Wyld detailing Upper and Lower Canada during the mid 19th century. The first map is titled, “A Map of the Province of Upper Canada describing All the New Settlements, Townships &cc” (571x865mm 8th state). It focuses on the Great Lakes, extending from Lake Superior and Lake Michigan in the West to Quebec City and New Hampshire to the East. Also, Upstate New York is depicted in detail. The second map is titled, “A New Map of the Province of Lower Canada describing all Seigneuries, Townships, Grants of Land &cc” (572x870mm 8th state). This map focuses on present day Quebec and New Brunswick, spanning from the Bay of Fundy in the east to Montreal in the west; only showing a small portion of Maine. James Wyld was a noted geographer and map-seller. He was the eldest son of James Wyld the Elder. On his father's death in 1836, Wyld became the sole owner of the thriving family mapmaking business based in Charing Cross.
