Volume I (of 5 atlases and 12 volumes of text) of this monumental and scarce atlas of Italy with a collection of maps and plates detailing various Italian regions. Part I deals with maps, starting with a large general map of Italy in sections which is followed by different regional and city maps. Part II deals with various architectural views of the diverse regions of Italy. There are maps, topographic and corographic of Italian territories, city plans, some double-page spread, locations and views illustrating in detail the entire peninsula and its most corners suggestive. The plates are engraved copper by Giacinto Maina, Valerio Stanghi, Antonio Verico and others.

Giuseppe Orlandini (Attilio Zuccagni-Orlandini) (1784 - 1872) was an Italian cartographer and geographer. He graduated in medicine at the University of Pisa and, after making long trips in Italy and abroad, he returned to Florence to direct a private school and devote himself to the world of' education. He became head of the statistics department of the Ministry of Finance and soon devoted himself to the study of cartography and geography. In this setting he began his most famous works, one of them being “Atlante illustrative…”
