This is a series of highly detailed maps of Newfoundland by French Rear Admiral Georges-Charles Cloué during the mid 19th century. The maps serve as “pilot guides”; maps to help sailors navigate the waters around the island. Cloué (1817-1889) was not only a Naval Officer but also a colonial administrator and politician over the course of his life.
