The end of the book contains a fascinating treatise on the condition of the Dutch East Indies by the late Governor-General Gustaaf Willem Baron Imhoff. He confronts the fact that the Dutch East Indies had been on the decline for the past fifty years and gives some suggestions as to how it could be rejuvenated. Jakob or Jacobus, van der Schley (1715-1779) was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver. He studied under Bernard Picart (1673-1733) whose style he subsequently copied.
