Alexey Alexandrovich Martynov (1820-1895) was a historian, archaeologist, architect. He studied at the Moscow school of architecture of the palace office. He also served as an architectural assistant in the Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Furthermore, he helped with the construction of the Grand Kremlin Palace, as well as the restoration of the Kremlin churches and palaces. Together with I.M. Snegirev, he published several books on the history of Moscow. The artist has depicted beautifully various religious edifices with the architectural plan of the building underneath each plate.
