John Eliot Howard (1807-1883) was an English chemist who conducted pioneering work with the development of quinine. Scientific works he authored includes The Quinology of the East Indian Plantations, and in dedication to his contribution to botanical knowledge, the genus Howardia of the Rubiaceae carries his namesake.
